About Luke:

I am an associate professor at the University of Michigan School of Social Work and Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy, and a research affiliate of the National Poverty Center. The thing that keeps me up at night is wondering how we can make the U.S. social safety net as effective as possible at serving low-income families with children. I try to do work in both the academic and public realm. My research has been published in such peer-reviewed academic journals as Journal of Policy Analysis and Management, Social Service Review, and Monthly Labor Review, and has been funded by the National Science Foundation and the USDA Economic Research Service. It has been cited in such media outlets as The New York Times, National Review, USA Today, and The Washington Post. I completed my doctoral work at the University of Chicago, School of Social Service Administration, and I live in Ann Arbor with my wife Susie and our kiddos, Bridget (6) and Michael (2).
