NLIHC collecting signatures

nlihc logoThe National Low Income Housing Coalition (NLIHC) is asking organizations to sign a letter to be sent to The National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform.

The letter urges the Commission to adopt the principle that lower income people should not be harmed by its recommendations, and emphasizes smart investments to help low income people will strengthen the economy and the nation.

$4.5 million grant for NeighborWorks of Western Vermont

NeighborWorks of Western Vermont won a $4.5 million grant for innovative energy efficiency and renewable energy programs.

The Rutland County nonprofit housing organization received the grant — one of only 20 nationwide — for its proposal to save energy and create jobs retrofitting homes and municipal buildings.

The only stipulation is your household income be less than $50,000.

Report: Vermont rental housing grows more out of reach

Vermonters who rent live in the 15th least affordable state in the nation, according to a new report released by the National Low Income Housing Coalition (NLIHC), a Washington, D.C., housing advocacy group, and the Vermont Affordable Housing Coalition (VAHC) in Burlington.

The annual "Out of Reach" report, released today, says rural Vermont is one of the 10 most expensive rural areas in the nation.
