MICHELLE PACKARD PROMOTED TO MANAGER OF BOND FINANCINGS AND INVESTMENTS AT VHFA

BURLINGTON—Executive Director Sarah Carpenter announced Michelle Packard of Burlington has been promoted to Manager of Bond Financings and Investments at Vermont Housing Finance Agency (VHFA). Packard joined the Agency on a temporary basis in 2008, working in the Agency’s Homeownership Department. She was quickly promoted and joined as a full-time employee in the Finance Department as a Financial Analyst. Before joining VHFA, she spent nearly two decades as Treasurer for Summit Financial Center, a Burlington mortgage company.

NEW WEBSITE BRINGS TOGETHER VERMONT’S RENTAL HOUSING CODES

BURLINGTON, VT  A new website launched today, Vermont Rental Housing Codes at www.rentalcodes.org. It provides guidance on the health and safety standards that existing residential rental housing in Vermont must meet. It outlines the legal rights and responsibilities of landlords and tenants throughout the rental process and explains the standards that municipalities and town health officers should enforce when inspecting rental housing.

SARA BARRETT JOINS VHFA AS LOAN SERVICING ASSISTANT

BURLINGTON—Executive Director Sarah Carpenter announced Sara Barrett of Burlington has joined Vermont Housing Finance Agency (VHFA) as Loan Servicing Assistant. Barrett’s most recent experience includes serving as an AmeriCorps member with the Shared Equity Program at Champlain Housing Trust through Vermont Housing and Conservation Board. She has been in the affordable housing industry since 2009. Barrett will provide support to the Agency’s loan servicing function in our Homeownership Department.

BURLINGTON, VT The Vermont Housing Data Website (www.housingdata.org) has added hundreds of Census data including Census 2010 demographic information and detailed estimates on home heating sources and housing cost burdens from the U.S. Census Bureau’s American Community Survey (ACS).

BONNIE BLACK JOINS VHFA AS HOMEOWNERSHIP OUTREACH COORDINATOR

BURLINGTON—Executive Director Sarah Carpenter announced Bonnie Black of Essex has joined Vermont Housing Finance Agency (VHFA) as Homeownership Outreach Coordinator. Black’s real estate and home loan experience stretch back to 1993. Most recently, she’s been a Loan Officer with Wells Fargo Home Mortgage in Williston. Before that, she spent five years as Multiple Listing Service (MLS) Director at the Vermont Real Estate Information Network in Williston where she oversaw daily operation of the statewide MLS with 1,800 Realtor® members.

VHFA ANNOUNCES NEW HOMEOWNERSHIP INCOME AND PURCHASE PRICE LIMITS

BURLINGTON—More Vermonters will be able to purchase homes using Vermont Housing Finance Agency’s low-interest mortgages thanks to new income and purchase price limits put in place last Friday. “VHFA is always working hard to respond to Vermont’s housing market, which can be a moving target,” explained Executive Director Sarah Carpenter.

JACKLYN SANTERRE PROMOTED TO DIRECTOR OF HOMEOWNERSHIP

BURLINGTON VT—Vermont Housing Finance Agency (VHFA) Executive Director Sarah Carpenter announced Jacklyn Santerre of Colchester has been promoted from Assistant Director of Homeownership Programs to Director of Homeownership. Santerre is responsible for the management of VHFA’s homeownership programs including production, outreach, and servicing, as well as new program development and implementation. She works with other members of VHFA’s Senior Management team and the Agency’s Executive Management to assist in the development of the Agency’s strategic and business plan.

RENTING AN APARTMENT IN VERMONT CONTINUES TO GROW MORE DIFFICULT

BURLINGTON VT—Renting an apartment in Vermont continues to grow more difficult for the average Vermonter, according to a report released today. The 2011 update of “Between a Rock and a Hard Place: Housing and Wages in Vermont” shows a modest 2- bedroom apartment in Vermont costs an average of $990 a month, a 7 percent increase over the year before and a 58 percent increase since 2000. A renter would need to earn an hourly wage of at least $19.03 — or $39,595, annually — to afford this.
