Metamorphosis begins for once-decaying mobile home park near Vergennes

After sitting vacant for six years, the Gevries mobile home park in Addison County has started redevelopment.  VHFA provided housing tax credits that will cover an estimated 60 percent of the project’s costs and ensure that the new 14-home community will be affordable for low-income renters of all ages. By installing VERMOD high-performance duplex homes, developers Cathedral Square Corporation and Addison County Community Trust anticipate that the neighborhood will achieve net-zero annual energy costs, another critical component of its long-term affordability. 

Ground breaking at Elm Place in Milton celebrated

Executive Director Sarah Carpenter joined partners from Cathedral Square and other agencies to launch construction of Elm Place, a 30-unit building for seniors in Milton. Elm Place will be Vermont’s first multi-family building certified to Passive House standards. Better windows and doors, added insulation and improved air sealing are expected to enable the building to use roughly 65 percent less energy. 

Woodstock community celebrates the creation of 28 affordable apartments

Governor Shumlin joined Woodstock residents, local officials, and statewide housing partners yesterday to celebrate the creation of 28 new affordable rental apartments at the Safford Commons complex.  Safford Commons is on the site of the former Grange Hall and church on Route 4 in Woodstock.  While 24 of the new apartments are in newly-constructed buildings, four are in the buildings that already stood on the site 

Red Clover Commons Groundbreaking Event

Brattleboro Housing Partnership and Housing Vermont broke ground this past Monday on a 55-unit affordable housing project. These two organizations have partnered together to build Red Clover Commons, a three-story senior housing complex located on a 2.8-acre site in Brattleboro.

Historic Putney home renovated to provide 11 affordable apartments

There were smiles a plenty in Putney Thursday as the community celebrated the renovation of the historic Plantz house at 27 Old Depot Road. The apartments will be managed by Windham and Windsor Housing Trust who oversaw the renovation process.
