VHFA submitted comments today to the Vermont Department of Disabilities, Aging and Independent Living (DAIL) on its Plan on Aging, a federally required five year plan regarding the state's elderly population. The state's draft plan is clear that the fastest growing population is frail elders who most likely need supportive services, and that Vermont's elders overwhelmingly prefer to live independently. What is not clear in the draft is an identification of resources directed toward community based services and housing to respond to this growing demand. VHFA's comments call on DAIL to add a new goal of promoting affordable housing options with supportive services for older Vermonters with low incomes. The state published its online notice requesting comments April 28. They are due to Aging & Disabilities Programs Administrator Marie Bean by June 1.
