It's go time at VHFA!

With today marking the beginning of Week 2 of Vermont's Way to Go Challenge, VHFA staff are showing their stuff when it comes to reducing carbon pollution. 

Eight-two percent of the Agency’s staff are biking, walking, running, bussing and carpooling as much as possible before the challenge ends on October 7.  In addition to reducing its carbon footprint, the VHFA group has their eye on winning a Carbon Throw Down with our partners at Housing Vermont.

Affordable housing tops concerns in UVM Medical Center community survey

Lack of affordable housing is the community challenge that survey respondents are most concerned about, according to the recently released 2016 Community Health Needs Assessment.  Among survey respondents, 58.3 percent rated lack of affordable housing as the top concern, followed by 52.5 percent for drug and alcohol abuse.

VHFA-ers run it out on the Colchester causeway Saturday

As the fog lifted over a brilliant Lake Champlain, eight VHFA-ers raced to the finish line Saturday morning at the Colchester Causeway 5k & 15k Race. Joe Erdelyi, Brittany Garland and Sara Everest showed their endurance with flying colors in the 15k race, while the rest of us happily reached our 5k goals.

Bipartisan Policy Center recommends new funding and approaches to meet housing needs of seniors

A recent report from the Bipartisan Policy Center describes the need for a comprehensive national approach to integrating health care and housing for seniors.

Ground breaking at Elm Place in Milton celebrated

Executive Director Sarah Carpenter joined partners from Cathedral Square and other agencies to launch construction of Elm Place, a 30-unit building for seniors in Milton. Elm Place will be Vermont’s first multi-family building certified to Passive House standards. Better windows and doors, added insulation and improved air sealing are expected to enable the building to use roughly 65 percent less energy. 

Accessible housing can be the norm, not the exception

The toolbox for enabling seniors who want to grow older in their current homes is becoming increasingly effective, according to experts consulted in a recent How Housing Matters article.
