BURLINGTON—VHFA Development Underwriter Liza Vedder Plantilla has been elected President of the 15- member Board of Directors of the Vermont Green Building Network in Burlington. “I look forward to reaching out to those who want to ensure buildings are constructed, rehabilitated and maintained in a way that's environmentally responsible,” says Plantilla, who has served as the network’s Treasurer for two years. “Green building isn’t anything new to Vermonters. It’s a solid building ethic that includes conservation of materials, and minimizing waste and environmental impact. We've been doing that in New England for a long time. “Now the industry is coming of age,” she adds, “the Vermont Green Building Network wants to ensure Vermonters have access to the wealth of information and products that are available to them as they focus on sustainable building.” The Vermont Green Building Network, the Vermont chapter of the United States Green Building Council, is a non-profit organization dedicated to increasing Vermont’s participation in green building. It promotes the environmental, financial, community and health benefits of green design, construction and building operation practices. For more information about the Vermont Green Building Network, go to the organization’s Web site: www.vgbn.org. VHFA was created by the Vermont Legislature in 1974 to finance and promote the development of affordable housing opportunities for low- and moderate-income Vermonters. Since its inception, VHFA has helped more than 25,000 households with affordable mortgages and financed the creation of nearly 7,000 affordable rental units. More information about VHFA and its programs is available on the Agency Web site, www.vhfa.org.
