VHFA TO DONATE CLOTHING, CANDY TO WOMEN HELPING BATTERED WOMEN

BURLINGTON, VT  Vermont Housing Finance Agency (VHFA) will donate a pair of mittens stuffed with holiday candy to Burlington’s Women Helping Battered Women office for every new “like” of the Agency’s Facebook page through Sunday, December 15. “Our ‘mitten stuffing’ drive has been a holiday tradition at VHFA for many years,” according to Executive Director Sarah Carpenter. “This year, we thought we’d step up our goal since Women Helping Battered Women expects to see at least 300 children this month,” she continued. There are two ways the greater community can help. For every new “like” of the Agency’s Facebook page, VHFA will donate a pair of candy-laden mitten or gloves. Facebook users can visit the VHFA page at http:/www.facebook.com/vermonthousingfinance agency. Due to the high number of mittens and gloves needed this year, VHFA is also inviting community members to directly donate new mittens and gloves at its office on the corner of King and St. Paul Streets in Burlington any time before Monday, December 16. VHFA staff will stuff each item with candy in time to have them distributed to the children before the holidays. Women Helping Battered Women is a non-profit community organization that promotes personal and social wellness through educational, recreational, and social programs to give children and families the life-building skills necessary for healthy and productive futures. VHFA is a non-profit agency created in 1974 by the Vermont Legislature to finance and promote affordable housing opportunities for low- and moderate-income Vermonters. Since its inception, the Agency has helped approximately 27,000 Vermont households with affordable mortgages and financed the development of approximately 8,400 affordable rental units.
