edna fairbanks-williamsTo call Edna Fairbanks-Williams an affordable housing advocate is to give her only a fraction of the credit she earned during her life spent defending Vermont's poor and underprivileged.

Edna died yesterday in a car accident not far from her Hubbardton home. She was 77.

Though Vermont's housing community might know her from her work on the Vermont Affordable Housing Coalition, Edna's background included time spent with the Vermont Low Income Advocacy Council, Vermont Legal Aid, Legal Services Law Line of Vermont, Vermont Dental Care Programs, and the Vermont Tobacco Evaluation and Review Board.

In 1993, President Bill Clinton named the Randolph native to the Board of Directors of the national Legal Services Corp.

WCAX-TV Channel 3 also ran a story about her yesterday. Read the transcript online.
