The economy and VHFA

Seems like talk about the economy has bossed the news over the last few weeks.

You can read VHFA Executive Director Sarah Carpenter's views on the current economic situtation's effect on VHFA in an article that appeared in the Barre-Montpelier Times Argus over the weekend.

Montpelier gets eight new apartments

The Central Vermont Land Trust held an open house yesterday at 208 Barre Street in Montpelier.

Eight new apartments are ready for occupancy in the Bianchi Block, a 1907 building that has been home to an auto parts store, granite worker housing and social clubs over the years.

Save the date: URA training

Affordable housing development organizations should plan to attend the Oct. 29 training on the Uniform Relocation Assistance and Real Property Acquisition Policies Act/Section 104(d) of the Housing and Community Development Act.

If you're working on a HUD-funded project (HOME, CDBG, and Section 108 Loan Guarantees) that involves acquisition of real estate or rehabilitation of existing occupied residential or commercial property, you're obligated to comply with these requirements.

Fuel assistance workshop agenda

Rick DeAngelis at Vermont Housing & Conservation Board in Montpelier has released more details about the fuel assistance workshop taking place Oct. 1 in Montpelier.

The workshop is for owners and managers of affordable rental housing, and will focus on how those people can assist their very low income residents take advantage of the Vermont Fuel Assistance program.

The agenda will be:

Sue Joachim marks 25 years

Punch and cake were in order this afternoon, when VHFA recognized Lender Accounting Coordinator Sue Joachim for her 25 years with the Agency.

Sue joined VHFA when the Finance Department was a mere three people. (It's seven now.) Computers were non-existent at the Agency. Instead, upon her arrival, she was issued an adding machine, #2 pencil and a paper ledger.

Participate in Web site focus group

The Center for Rural Studies (CRS) at the University of Vermont is conducting a series of focus groups to improve the Vermont Housing Data Web site.

These 30-minute sessions will help determine how the site is being used, how it impacts/benefits users, and how it could be improved. Each session will include group discussion as well as hands-on navigation of the site.

VHFA hosts first Community Awareness Program presentation

tim perrinVHFA's Socially Responsible Committee kicked off its Community Awareness Program (CAP) this afternoon, with a lunch-time presentation on energy efficiency by Tim Perrin of Efficiency Vermont.

Tim shared tips on how to make homes more energy efficient, save money and help the environment.
