The keynote address was given by Xavier de Souza Briggs, widely acclaimed author, researcher, and federal policy maker who left the audience with a new sense of the strength of the connection between a person's housing situation and their health, educational success, and contribution to the community.
The conference plenary panel featured national housing finance experts who described the dire impact of spending caps and sequestration on housing and community development funding. Governor Shumlin kicked off the conference by reviewing the successes and remaining challenges facing Vermont, particularly those related to withstanding more intense, climate-change storms, such as Tropical Storm Irene.
