women attend workshopThe home repair for women workshop conducted by Champlain Housing Trust (CHT) last week was highly-rated by those who attended, who ranked it 4.9 on a 1-to-5 scale.

Attendees received information about homes, systems, and tools; and participated in a hands-on workshop to learn how to fix sheetrock and install lighting fixtures.

The event was held at a home on Lake Street in St. Albans owned by VHFA. The Agency acquired the foreclosed property through our Homeownership Acquisition and Rehabilitation Program (HARP). HARP uses funding from the Neighborhood Stabilization Program to acquire, rehabilitate and resell to income-eligible families foreclosed properties.

"This extremely positive experience was great on so many levels including the fact that a formerly foreclosed upon home will not only become an affordable home, but additionally helped teach valuable skills to an appreciative group," says CHT Homebuyer Education Manager Barbara Geries.

Other organizations making the workshop possible were: Vermont Federal Credit Union, Girlington Garage and Vermont Works for Women.
