Annual Mitten Drive
It's time for VHFA's annual mitten drive. This year, we will be donating stuffed mittens to benefit the Sarah Holbrook Youth Center and the King Street Youth Center. Both programs are vital community resources for children and teens. Please drop off mittens, gloves or hats at the VHFA office at 164 Saint Paul Street, Burlington by Wednesday, December 16th. Kids and Fitness, a local afterschool program run by The Edge Sports & Fitness, will fill and decorate the mittens with candy canes and ribbons and deliver them to the youth centers.
Resident service coordinators convene in Vermont
More than 450 people gathered at the 17th Annual New England Resident Service Coordinators (NERSC) last week at the Stowe Mountain Lodge. Attendees came from all over the 6 New England states plus 8 other states nationally. This conference only occurs every six years in the state of Vermont and Vermont Housing Finance Agency was so pleased to host the 2015 meeting. The theme of the conference was Diversity: Celebrating Beauty & Strength.
Request for proposals for Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) Lead Agency
Vermont State Housing Authority (VSHA) is seeking proposals, on behalf of the Vermont Coalition to End Homelessness (VCEH), from qualified applications to become the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) Lead Agency to serve the Vermont Balance of State Continuum of Care geographic area. Homeless services, emergency assistance and local government agencies use HMIS to collect demographic and service information about homeless and formerly homeless households who seek and obtain services.
President Obama’s housing plan seeks better financing options for home buyers and rental housing
In addition to federal FHA mortgage insurance program modifications, President Obama announced this week his support for other ways to improve the availability of affordable owner and rental housing, including several initiatives administered by VHFA and partner housing agencies in other states.

Vermont's Department of Housing and Community Development is in the process of preparing the 2015 to 2020 HUD Consolidated Plan which guides the investment of more than $10 million annually for three formula grants: Community Development Block Grants CDBG), Home Investment Partnership (HOME) funds and Emergency Solutions Grants (ESG).
Annual Mitten Drive
This year VHFA will be donating stuffed mittens to benefit the children in programs offered by the Sara Holbrook Youth Center. Last year the Sara Holbrook Youth Center served 51 preschool and elementary children and 600 teens through playgroups and direct advocacy. Throughout their various community programs, the Sara Holbrook Youth Center helped over 650 children.
