BURLINGTON-Executive Director Sarah Carpenter announced that Vermont Housing Finance Agency (VHFA) has hired Zach Nelson of Burlington’s North End for the position of Business Development Coordinator-Homeownership. Nelson comes to VHFA from the Burlington Free Press where he was an Account Executive. “Zach’s background in developing marketing campaigns and digital marketing solutions will be valuable in marketing for the Agency’s mortgage products”, Carpenter remarked. In addition, Nelson will work with the Manager of Business Development to increase support to VHFA’s lending partners and consumers.

Mia Watson joins VHFA as Research and Communications Coordinator
Executive Director Sarah Carpenter announced that Vermont Housing Finance Agency (VHFA) has hired Mia Watson of Essex Junction for the position of Research and Communications Coordinator. Watson comes to VHFA from University of Vermont where she worked in the Administrative Business Center while completing a Masters of Public Administration.
“We are excited to have Mia back at VHFA after her graduate internship in our Research Department last year,” Carpenter remarked.
Watson fills a position vacated by Leslie Black-Plumeau. Black-Plumeau has moved into the role of VHFA’s Policy and Planning Manager.
VHFA's David Adams to retire, Maura Collins named Deputy Director
VHFA announced today that David Adams, Chief of Program Operations, will be retiring from the agency on November 17, 2017. Concurrently, Maura Collins will be promoted to the position of Deputy Director. “Dave has expertly led our programs through the turbulent economic and mortgage industry changes of the past two decades,” VHFA Executive Director Sarah Carpenter explained. “His dedication to VHFA’s mission and unmatched mortgage banking experience have led to many ground-breaking improvements in how our programs operate.”
Lisa Clark named Assistant Director of Finance at Vermont Housing Finance Agency
Executive Director Sarah Carpenter announced Lisa Clark has been promoted to Assistant Director of Finance at VHFA. She began her career at the Agency in 1997. “Lisa has been a long-term, dedicated member of VHFA’s Finance Department for 20 years and we are excited about expanding her responsibilities for the Agency’s bond and investment functions,” said Tom Connors, VHFA’s Chief Financial Officer.
Lisa’s expanded role includes oversight of VHFA’s bond and investment accounting, compliance monitoring and the information technology needs of the Finance Department. In her expanded role, she supervises staff responsible for bond financing, investments, financial analysis and compliance monitoring.
Lisa resides in Essex with her husband and two children.

VHFA announces the promotion of Kim Roy to Director of Multifamily Asset Management and Compliance
Executive Director Sarah Carpenter announced Kim Roy has been promoted to Director of Multifamily Asset Management and Compliance at VHFA. She began her career at the Agency in 1989 in the Communication’s Department and has held a variety of positions with VHFA. Kim most recently served as Assistant Director of Multifamily Programs. She will take over department leadership from recently retired Sam Falzone. “Kim has been a long-term, dedicated employee of VHFA for 28 years and we are so pleased she is taking on this new role.” said Sarah Carpenter, VHFA’s Executive Director.
Burlington Housing Authority announces new leadership
Allyson Laackman has been appointed as the executive director of the Burlington Housing Authority (BHA), the organization’s board of commissioners announced today.
Laackman, who was recruited in December as interim co-executive director to help lead the organization through a strategic planning process, has a distinguished career in public service, including serving as the White House’s chief financial officer.
“Allyson has impressed all of us on the board of commissioners with her energy and enthusiasm for BHA’s mission,” said Michael Knauer, the chair of BHA’s board of commissioners.
ANDREA TIESO JOINS VHFA AS MULTIFAMILY MANAGEMENT OFFICER
Executive Director Sarah Carpenter announced that VHFA has hired a new Multifamily Management Officer. Andrea Tieso comes to VHFA from Summit Property Management where she has worked since 2014 as a Compliance Specialist. She has many years of experience in property management and has worked specifically with Housing Tax Credits and Section 8 housing.
Andrea lives in Charlotte with her husband and three children.
VHFA ranked again among top 5 best small places to work in Vermont
VHFA is ranked again in the top five Best Places to Work among small and medium sized companies across the state by the Vermont Business Magazine. After receiving the honor of the top spot in 2016, VHFA was ranked fourth for 2017. The award was made last night at the DoubleTree Hotel in South Burlington where Governor Phil Scott and hundreds of employees from the 45 companies ranked as finalists gathered.
