VHFA achieves energy savings

light bulbLast year VHFA implemented a number of energy saving initiatives at our offices in downtown Burlington. According to the Burlington Electric Department (BED), those efforts have started to pay off.

BED estimates VHFA reduced its electricity bill by $1,800 over the course of the year.

In the last year, we've:

  • Replaced dead light bulbs with new, more efficient T8 bulbs, which actually produce a higher level of light than the older T12 bulbs while saving energy
  • Reduced the use of some electric space heaters, or eliminated them altogether
  • Installed more efficient dehumidifiers in the basement

More recently, we installed systems on our snack vending machines to reduce energy consumption during off-hours. We expect that initiative will pay for itself in a couple years, and continue to save energy and money for years to come.

We hope the savings we've seen are just the beginning. In the current economy, saving money is more important than ever. And, naturally, energy efficiency is good for the environment.
