Posted by: Leslie Black-Plumeau on November 4, 2011 - 2:28pm

VHFA recently completed an assessment of the demographics, housing stock, and affordability challenges of residents in Burlington's downtown and waterfront neighborhoods.

This area experienced a much higher rate of population growth during the past decade than the city as a whole.  It's primarily renter population has lower incomes on average, with a third spending more than half of their incomes for housing.

The housing report was prepared for the City of Burlington which was awarded a Sustainable Communities Challenge Grant by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development in the fall of 2010.   The project provides Burlington with a unique opportunity to develop a comprehensive and strategic land use and development plan specifically for the downtown and waterfront  areas.

Read the housing report and about other components of Burlington's Downtown and Waterfront planning process.
