Harvard study: Housing downturn worst in decades

state of the nation's housing report coverA recent study released by the Joint Center for Housing Studies at Harvard University finds the current housing downturn could be the worst in a generation.

The report shows the number of homeowners paying more than half their income on housing increased from 6.5 million in 2001 to 8.8 million in 2006.

VHFA wrapped up its eight-week walking program with Loss Management Specialist Polly Thibault as the Agency's top walker.

For walking a total 293 miles, Polly won a beach bag full of beach necessities and a gift certificate for lunch.

Director of Administration Pat Loller was a close second.

Housing conference: Registration now open

Ground breaking at Union Square Apartments, Windsor

Union Square Apartments, formerly known as Armory Square, is a $9 million construction project that will offer 58 affordable apartments when it's completed next November.

"Family Homelessness in Vermont," written by VHFA Public Affairs Manager John Fairbanks, explores the number of homeless Vermonters, the state of Vermont's shelters, why people are homeless, as well as what Vermonters are doing about the problem and what more we can do.

Multifamily properties: Prepare now for heating season

Unprecedented increases in the cost of energy mean owners and managers of multifamily properties will face budget challenges this coming winter.

VHFA Director of Multifamily Programs Sam Falzone has just issued a memo outlining these challenges and offering a number of tips to owners and managers of VHFA-financed properties to help lessen the blow of growing heating costs.

Seventh walking award goes to Ashley Lamell

walkingVHFA Staff Accountant Ashley Lamell received the seventh weekly award in the Agency's walking program.

Ashley won a bagful of VHFA-branded goodies for continuously improving her mileage for the past three weeks.

VHFA's eight-week walking program encourages staff members to wear Agency-supplied pedometers to count their steps, increase their physical activity and "reach the beach."
