Burlington Free PressToday’s Burlington Free Press spotlights Matt Young, supervisor for the Howard Center’s Street Outreach Team, who “doesn’t just find the homeless shelter [but] wants to show them the way to a home.”  Young and his team walk the streets of Burlington, assisting 550-950 people each year.  He explained that they see some people every day. 

VHFA-ers had the opportunity to learn about Young’s work last year when he visited its offices and described the challenges facing people his team assists. 

The homeless, mentally ill, and substance abusers have unique problems, but their symptoms can be identical, Young explained.  However, clients often have more complicated issues, such as financial, social, and mental hardships.  Young explained that some of these clients recover with the help of service providers around Burlington.
