First-time home buyers face similar challenges in local housing markets across the state

Posted by: Leslie Black-Plumeau on October 8, 2015 - 12:35pm

Despite the recovery taking place in most of Vermont's local housing markets, relatively high rents and home purchase prices continue to prevent many younger residents from buying their first home. After examining recent data on rents and home prices in each Vermont county, VHFA's Maura Collins summarized local market conditions and the benefits likely from a recent new state program to provide down payment assistance to qualified first-time home buyers.  Read editorials in the Brattleboro Reformer,  Essex Reporter and Addison County Independent.

Want to know how the housing market is doing in in other parts of the state?  Check out the Vermont Housing Data website. The site was recently updated to include town, county and statewide statistics on home sales during the first half of 2015, building permits, unemployment and people receiving SSI.
