Xavier de Souza Briggs, of MIT, will deliver the keynote address at the Vermont Statewide Housing Conference on Thursday.  Mr. Briggs is widely known for his far reaching academic and on-the-ground expertise in sociology, urban planning, and housing.

Briggs spent January 2009 to August 2011 on public service leave from the MIT faculty, appointed by President Obama to serve as Associate Director of the Office of Management and Budget in the White House.  He oversaw a wide array of policy, budget, and management issues for the departments of Commerce, Treasury, and HUD and for SBA and financial regulators.  This experience positions Dr. Briggs well to shed light on how HUD is likely to fare relative to other domestic discretionary funding as federal budget deliberations continue to intensify during the next few months.

Read Dr. Briggs’ full bio on the Vermont Statewide Housing Conference website.   Mr. Briggs’ comments on Thursday, November 15, will focus on housing’s impact on health, educational success, and other aspects of our lives.  The keynote address will start at 12:50 pm at the Burlington Hilton.
