Now through the Vermont Statewide Housing Conference, Nov. 18, we’re spotlighting speakers planning to participate in the day’s bevy of workshops. Next up: Jeanine Bunzigiye, Case Manager, Burlington Housing Authority.

Jeanine, a former New American, has been living in Vermont for the last 10 years. She received her BA in Political Science and her minor in Pre-Law and Business Management from Johnson State College.

As a Burlington Housing Authority (BHA) Case Manager since 2008, she has a reputation as a strong advocate in, and on behalf of, the Immigrant and New American community in Chittenden County.

Jeanine speaks four languages, which helps her to do her job so well. She's able to reach out to, and better serve, the community by using her language skills and experience.

Before coming to BHA, Jeanine worked in partnership with many area agencies to advocate for the new Americans and immigrants on issues including social and economic justice.

Jeanine continues this work, with many roles in the community: She's worked for and in the Burlington School District for three years helping new American and immigrant youth; she makes sure the families she's helping are better able to settle into life in Vermont. Jeanine makes herself available at all times to help smooth their transition into their new lives, and makes sure they receive the support and services they need and deserve.

She's speaking as part of the "Housing for New Immigrants and Refugees" panel.
