Red Clover Commons Groundbreaking Event

Posted by: Marina Demas on 9/2/2015

Brattleboro Housing Partnership and Housing Vermont broke ground this past Monday on a 55-unit affordable housing project. These two organizations have partnered together to build Red Clover Commons, a three-story senior housing complex located on a 2.8-acre site in Brattleboro.

All 55 apartments will be occupied by past residents of Melrose Terrace. In 2011, Melrose Terrace was badly damaged by the flooding from Tropical Storm Irene and caused all 84 residents to vacate the complex. Brattleboro Housing Partnership and Housing Vermont are still working on relocating the remaining residents but they remain top priority.

VHFA was proud to award federal low-income housing tax credits to the project that will provide over $7.5 million in equity. The 15.9 million dollar project was also supported by a substantial amount of Disaster Recovery funding through the Community Development Block Grant program, the federal HOME program, Efficiency Vermont, People's United Bank and others. The building is expected to be ready for occupancy in September 2016.
