"Solidarity Sleep Out" for homeless youth
A group of business and community leaders will spend the night of March 29th sleeping outdoors, on the grounds of the Burlington Unitarian Church. Run by Spectrum Youth and Family Services, the sleep out is intended to help raise awareness of youth homelessness and increase funds to ensure that homeless youth have a safe, stable place to stay.

Services for Melinda Bussino set for Friday and Saturday, March 9-10
A celebration of Melinda Bussino’s life will be held Saturday, March 10, at 1 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Brattleboro. Calling hours will be at Ker-Westerlund Funeral Home on Friday, March 9 from 4 to 7 p.m.
Melinda, the Executive Director of the Brattleboro Area Drop-In Center for the homeless and hungry, died Sunday after a fatal heart attack.
The family requests that in keeping with Melinda's wishes, donations in lieu of flowers be made to the Brattleboro Area Drop-In Center, 60 South Main St., Brattleboro, VT 05301.
Benefit for residents with flooding at Cedar’s Edge apartments
A calcutta and silent auction to benefit the residents whose apartments were flooded just before Christmas will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2012 at 6pm.
Tickets are $30 for one person and $10 for each additional person in your group. Silent auction items will also be available, followed by a live band.
The event will be held at the St. John's Club is located at the end of Lakeside Avenue in Burlington. Proceeds will be used to support the tenants who were the hardest hit when a coupling crack in a fire suppression and alarm system at Cedar’s Edge, a new apartment building on Susie Wilson Road in Essex, caused the building to flood on December 20.
HUD Consolidated Plan public hearing on Feb. 13
The State of Vermont’s Department of Economic, Housing and Community Development will conduct a public hearing in preparation of developing its 2012 Action Plan for the HUD Consolidated Plan for 2010-2015, to hear views about the State’s housing and community development needs, including priority non-housing community development needs and development of proposed activities, and review past performance related to its HUD Consolidated Plan.
Materials available for next week's QAP public hearing
Next Thursday, February 2, 2012, Vermont's Joint Committee on Tax Credits will conduct a public hearing to discuss changes to the Qualified Allocation Plan (QAP) used to select the projects that will receive state and federal housing tax credits.
Housing tax credits have become the primary source of funding for the development of affordable rental housing in Vermont. As administrator of the state's housing credit program, VHFA awarded nearly $7 million in tax credits to 21 apartment projects in 2011 which will provide much needed housing to low and moderate income renters across the state.
